TorqBolt is renowned for manufacturing and stocking structural steel Astm A563 Grade D[C] Heavy Hex Nuts.
Astm A563 Grade D[C] Heavy Hex Nuts Properties
TorqBolt manufactures ASTM A563 Grade DC Heavy HEX Nuts via cold forging, hot forging and CNC machining. Sizes range from M1.0 to M100 (metric) and 1/16" to 4" (imperial). Available in coarse, fine, UNC, UNF, UN, BSW and acme threads with half, full or double-end thread configurations. Each ASTM A563 Grade DC Heavy HEX Nuts batch is supplied with EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 material test certificates.
ASTM A563 Grade Dc Heavy Hex Nuts — Specifications & Dimensions
ASTM A563 Grade Dc Heavy Hex nuts are internally threaded fasteners that mate with bolts and studs to form clamped joints. TorqBolt manufactures ASTM A563 Grade Dc Heavy Hex nuts per ASME B18.2.2, ISO 4032/4033/4034, DIN 934/EN 24032, and DIN 6915 (heavy hex), in sizes M6–M100 and 1/4"–4".
Nut Height Categories
Standard / regular hex nut — ~0.875×D height, ASME B18.2.2 Type 1
Heavy hex nut — ~D height, full strength matched to bolt grade (A194 2H pattern)
Jam / thin nut — 0.5×D height, used as locknut against a primary nut
Coupling nut — long-form for joining two threaded rods
Cap / acorn nut — closed-end, decorative + thread protection
Locking Variants
For vibration-loaded joints, ASTM A563 Grade Dc Heavy Hex nuts are available as nyloc (polymer insert), all-metal prevailing-torque (DIN 980, distorted-thread style), flange-serrated (DIN 6923, integral washer face with anti-back-off teeth), and castle / slotted (DIN 935, cotter-pin retention). Each locking style trades reusability against prevailing-torque retention.
Thread & Mechanical
ASTM A563 Grade Dc Heavy Hex nut threads are gauged per ASME B1.1 / ISO 965 to Class 2B / 6H by default; high-strength variants use 3B / 4H6H. Proof-load testing per ASTM F606 verifies the nut can develop the bolt's full strength without thread strip; hardness range is controlled to prevent stress-corrosion susceptibility (HV 250–353 typical for high-grade nuts). Each lot is EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certified.
Special Patterns
TorqBolt also produces ASTM A563 Grade Dc Heavy Hex nuts in weld-nut, T-nut, square-nut, knurled thumb-nut, and rivet-nut patterns. NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 sour-service certification available; NORSOK M-650 qualified mills supplying high-temperature service grades.
ASTM Carbon & Alloy Steel Bolting Specifications
The ASTM A193 / A194 / A320 / A325 / A490 / F568 family covers the dominant carbon and low-alloy steel bolting standards for pressure vessels, structural steel, and high-temperature service. Each spec defines composition, heat-treat condition, mechanicals, and acceptance testing per the application's safety classification.
ASTM A193 Grade B7 is the workhorse: AISI 4140 chrome-moly steel, quench + temper to yield 105 ksi min, the default for ASME flanged-joint stud bolts to 500°C. Grade B7M is hardness-controlled (≤ HRC 22) for sour service per NACE MR0175. Grade B16 uses Cr-Mo-V chemistry for service to 600°C (steam-turbine bolting). ASTM A320 L7 / L7M / L43 are the cryogenic-service variants tested per Charpy V-notch at -101°C (-150°F). ASTM A194 grade 2H / 7 / 7M / 16 are the matching nut grades.
ASTM A325 / A490 are the structural-steel high-strength bolts for buildings + bridges. ASTM F568 class 8.8 / 10.9 / 12.9 covers the metric high-strength bolt grades. EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certificates standard, with hardness, tensile, Charpy impact, and through-hardening checks per the lot release procedure.
