Slotted nuts are also called as castel nuts. castel nuts have six atop like structures on a castletop above the ring like structure on a hex nut. They are used with bolts or studs with a hole drilled along a hole drilled in their threaded section. Then the cotter pin is inserted in it to prevent it from rotating.
